Ownership
Troy was born and raised in Asheville and built his first pond in his parent’s yard when he was 8 years old. By the time he reached high school age, he had installed 10 other water features in his Bent Creek neighborhood. He prides himself on his hard work ethic and delivering a quality project on time and within budget along with his integrity and honesty in business dealings. To quote him, “I give 110% to every project” which gives excellent value for money. This value system and his passion for beautifying outdoor spaces resulted in the opportunity to form Mountain Landscapes in 2003. Troy also attended AB-Tech to increase his knowledge and expertise in AutoCAD, but his preference is still to draft blueprints for customers by hand to create individualized project plans. The Drapers have a 7-year-old daughter, for whom he has constructed in their home’s backyard a Koi pond with 22 Koi, a fire pit, flagstone patio and ornamental plantings while still saving room for her playground.
Company History
Mountain Landscapes LLC (“Mountain Landscapes”), a North Carolina LLC, was formed in April 2016. Mountain Landscapes has consecutively grown each year by word-of-mouth referrals and now maintains hundreds of Koi ponds in WNC annually and contracts, on average, 15-25 new water garden features each year. These figures do not include numerous patio and other hardscape and landscape projects.
Mountain Landscapes was presented the “Most Outstanding Water Feature Award” at the Parade of Homes event in 2006. In 2008, Mr. Draper designed and installed an $85,000 double waterfall at Jesse Israel and Sons Garden Center. This water feature is located within the WNC Farmer’s Market and the project resulted in Mountain Landscapes becoming the primary referral for all Jesse Israel water feature projects. In July 2016, the Omni Grove Park Inn contracted with Mountain Landscapes for the repair to their large, several hundred foot tall waterfall outside the Spa Experience. Most recently, The Cascades Hotel in Hendersonville hired the firm to rebuild several indoor and outdoor water features.
